Nikesh was born on 9th February 1968 in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, India to Jagdish Kumar Arora, who was an Air Force Officer. In 2014, he got married to his second wife Ayesha Thapar. She is a renowned Delhi socialite and CEO of Indian City Properties Ltd (ICPL). The couple has a son and a daughter (from Nikesh’s previous marriage). Currently, the couple is settled in San Francisco, California.

After his studies, Nikesh started his professional career. He gave his services to companies like Wipro, Deutsche Telekom, Fidelity Investments, and Hellas Telecommunications. He worked in various job roles like chief marketing officer etc.
In 1992, he joined Fidelity Investments. In 2000, he established T-Motion, a subsidiary within Deutsche Telekom. From 2001 to 2004, he worked as a chief marketing officer of the T-Mobile International Division. In 2004, he joined Google. He held multiple senior operating leadership roles at Google. He was the senior vice president and chief business officer of Google Inc. (Google) from January 2011 to July 2014. Later, he left Google and resigned from his post in 2014.
He also worked as the president and chief operating officer of SoftBank Corp. He received over $200 million in compensation.
