Bam Margera Personal Life
Bam Margera was born on 28 September 1979 in West Chester, Pennsylvania, United States to Phil Margera and April Margera. He is the younger brother of Jess Margera.
His grandfather nicknamed him “Bam Bam” at the age of three when he noticed his habit of deliberately running into walls; with time, his schoolmates shortened that nickname to “Bam”.
In 2020, Margera began appearing in YouTube videos, including a viral water polo fights video with model Jeb Carty.

Acting
Margera began filming videos of himself and his friends skateboarding and doing tricks, which later became the CKY video series. He self-published CKY. CKY2K, CKY3, and CKY4 have also been reported. CKY means “Camp Kill Yourself”, shared with the CKY group of his brother Jess Margera, named in homage to the film Sleepaway Camp. Those early videos feature many of Margera’s friends, including Ryan Dunn, Brandon DiCamillo, Rake Yohn, Chris Raab, and Brandon Novak, who form a loose collective known as Team CKY. Video and group projects are closely related.
Margera appeared in Jackass: The Movie, Jackass Number Two, Jackass 2.5, Jackass 3D, and Jackass 3.5. The first Jackass film had several CKY-style bits shot in and around West Chester, but similar scenes from the second film were removed after Margera’s uncle, Vincent Margera, was arrested on suspicion of inappropriately touching two minors.
In 2003, Margera played himself in the film Grind, which features four young men following a professional skateboarder from Chicago to California. The film features numerous cameos from members of Jackass as well as many professional skateboarders and other celebrities. Upon release, it received generally negative reviews from critics but was much appreciated by audiences. After Jackass, Margera got his own MTV series, Viva La Bam, which ran for five seasons from 2003 to 2005. The show followed Margera and his crew as they performed various stunts and missions. The show was filmed mainly in West Chester but also visited New Orleans, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Brazil, Finland, Mexico, Holland, and Transylvania. Early in his career, in 1997 and 1998, Margera was sponsored by Toy Machine Skateboards. Since 2001, Margera has been a member of Team Element, the presentation team of Element Skateboards. As of 2016, Margera is no longer in the team. He was also sponsored at various times by Speed Metal Bearings, Adio Footwear, Electric Sunglasses, Volcom, Landspeed Wheels, Destroyer Trucks, Destructo Trucks, and Fairman’s Skateshop.
As of 2022, Margera is without major sponsors and has all but retired from professional skateboarding. In January 2015, Margera announced that he was working on an autobiographical documentary, which he hoped to premiere shortly. On April 9, the first trailer of the film titled I Need Time to Stay Useless was released on YouTube and other media outlets. The film mainly deals with Margera’s life after the death of his close friend and co-star Ryan Dunn, who was killed in a car accident in 2011.
According to Margera, the film was three years in the making and will give viewers a glimpse into his childhood, career, and fame, focusing mainly on her recovery after Dunn’s death. Mastodon musician Brent Hinds introduces Dunn as the “dramatic fantasy interludes” that tie the film together and recreate Margera’s “darkest moments” after Dunn’s death.
On December 7, 2015, Margera announced on Facebook QandA that the film’s title would change from I Need Time to Stay Useless to Earth Rocker and that it would be released in February 2016. At the 2017 season premiere of Vice’s Epicly Later’d, Margera announced that after working on the film for four years straight, sometimes for weeks at a time, he had reached a point where he had had enough. Margera said he has about eleven terabytes of footage and it’s impossible to edit it into a two-hour movie.
Music
On November 24, 2004, Margera started a weekly Sirius Satellite Radio show on Sirius channel 28 Faction called Radio Bam. The show originally featured Margera and his friends from CKY and Jackass. Later shows had less of the two teams and more of the newer friends of Margera.
In 2005, Margera founded the record label Filthy Note Records and directed music videos for Clutch, Turbonegro, Viking Skull, Vains of Jenna, and several CKYs. He also directed four music videos for the Finnish group HIM “Buried Alive by Love”, “The Sacrament”, “And Love Said No” and “Solitary Man” and three films for The 69 Eyes, “Lost Boys”. “Dead Girls are Easy” and “Dead N Gone”. He also plays keyboards in a new band called Gnarkill with Brandon DiCamillo, Jess Margera, Rich Vose, and Matt Cole. Margera’s band Fuckface Unstoppable was written about on the Buddyhead website in 2013, and the article questions the band’s relevance. The group consisted of Margera, his brother (Jess Margera), his girlfriend, and Brandon Novak.
