Wanindu Hasaranga is a Sri Lankan international cricketer. He began his career as a frontline seam bowler but later switched to bowling leg-spin. In the IPL 2023 auction, he was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore for ₹10.75 crores.
Wanindu Hasaranga Personal Life
Wanindu Hasaranga was born on 29th July 1997 in Galle, Sri Lanka. He is the brother of Chaturanga de Silva who is also a cricketer.
Wanindu began his career as a frontline seam bowler but later switched to bowling leg-spin.
Wanindu Hasaranga Career
On 30th November 2015, he made his List A debut in the AIA Premier Limited Over Tournament. In the following month, he was selected for Sri Lanka’s squad for the 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup.
On 26th February 2016, he made his first-class debut for Sri Lanka Ports Authority Cricket Club in the 2015–16 Premier League Tournament ON 11th November 2017, he made his Twenty20 debut for Sylhet Sixers in the 2017–18 Bangladesh Premier League.
In March 2018, he was selected for Colombo’s squad for the 2017–18 Super Four Provincial Tournament. Later in August, he was selected for Dambulla’s squad in the 2018 SLC T20 League.
In March 2019, he was selected for Galle’s squad for the 2019 Super Provincial One Day Tournament. In October 2020, he was drafted by the Jaffna Stallions for the inaugural edition of the Lanka Premier League.
On 20th September 2021, he made his IPL debut for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Kolkata Knight Riders. In November 2021, he was selected for the Jaffna Kings following the players’ draft for the 2021 Lanka Premier League.
In April 2022, he was bought by the Manchester Originals for the 2022 season of The Hundred in England. In the year, he was signed up by Quetta Gladiators for the PSL 8, and by Desert Vipers in International League T20.
In the 2023 IPL auction, he is bought by the Royal Challengers Bangalore for ₹10.75 crores.
He is signed by Washington Freedom to play the 2023 Major League Cricket in the USA.
