Vanessa Mai s a German singer. She was a part of the musical band Wolkenfrei.  In January–May 2016, Mai was a judge on the 13th season of Deutschland Sucht den Superstar, the German version of Pop Idol and American Idol. In July 2018, Mai released her first single from this album, “WIR 2 IMMER 1 (feat. Olexesh)”, which became her most successful pop song to date.

Vanessa Mai Personal Life

Vanessa Mai was born on 2 May 1992 in Backnang, Germany. Her father’s name is Marino Mandekic, he is a Croatian-born musician.

Mai gave her first performances as a singer in the school musical “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz”. At the age of 15, she participated in the hip-hop world championship in Las Vegas and took last place as part of the German champion dance group Getting Craz’d.

She also completed an internship as a media designer.

In the summer of 2012, the then-singer of Wolkenfrei Heike Wanner left the group for health reasons. Wolkenfrei member Marc Fischer recruited Mai as a singer for his father’s band Musik-Express at a concert at the Sonnenhof in Aspach.

On July 19, 2013, their debut single “Jeans, T-Shirts, und Freiheit” was released. This was followed by their debut studio album Endlos verliebt (“Endless in Love”) in February 2014, which topped the charts in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. In January 2015, Mai was announced as the new face of the Mein Herz schlägt Schlager campaign. The single “Wolke 7” reached number 54 in Germany and number 71 in Austria.

On September 18, the album’s title track “Wachgeküsst” was released as the second single. On October 9, Mai’s first live album (still as Wolkenfrein) Wachgeküsst (Live) was released. The last single, “In all deinen Farben” (“In all your colors”) was released on 11 December, followed a week later by an off-album Christmas single titled “Ein Engel in der Weihnachtszeit” (“An Angel in Christmas Time”).

In January–May 2016, Mai was a judge on the 13th season of Deutschland Sucht den Superstar, the German version of Pop Idol and American Idol. In February, she announced her decision to no longer use the stage name Wolkenfrei.  Her first single under Vanessa Mai, entitled “Ich sterb für dich” (“I’m dying for you”), was released on 19 February. It preceded her first studio album under the name Vanessa Mai and her third studio album. Für Dich (“For you”), which was released on 15 April. The single and the album were produced by her Deutschland sucht den Superstar colleague Dieter Bohlen. From September to November, Mai went on her first solo tour, visiting Germany, Denmark, and Switzerland for 26 dates.

On January 6, 2017, a live album titled Für Dich – Live aus Berlin, recorded at Tempodrom in Berlin, was released. From March to May, she participated in the tenth season of Let’s Dance, the German version of Strictly Come Dancing, which ended. secondly. Thus, she is the youngest Schlager music artist ever to reach the top of the German charts twice in a row.

On August 20, 2020, Mai appeared as a guest artist in the second episode of the German version of I Can See Your Voice with DJ Picco from Essen.
