Sudhanshu Dhulia (born 10 August 1960) is a Judge of Supreme Court of India. He is former Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court and Judge of Uttarakhand High Court. Justice Dhulia is the first resident of Garhwal to become a judge of the Supreme Court. Justice Dhulia, originally a resident of village Madanpur Patti Langur Malla in Pauri Garhwal district, practiced in the Allahabad High Court for many years. The swearing-in ceremony of Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia and Justice JB Pardiwala as judges of the Supreme Court will be held at 10.30 pm on Monday. With the addition of these two judges, the Supreme Court will start functioning from Monday with the full strength of 34 judges. The Center on Saturday issued notification appointing Gauhati High Court Chief Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia and Gujarat High Court judge Justice Jamshed Burjor Pardiwala as Supreme Court judges.
Sudhanshu Dhulia Family
Justice Dhulia’s father and grandfather have been eminent scholars. Father Keshavchandra Dhulia was a judge of Allahabad High Court. He died in 1985 while still in office. He was also known as a writer. He used to write in the Karmabhoomi magazine under the name Divya Chashu. He edited the Karmabhoomi magazine. Coolie was involved in forced labor and Quit India Movement and was sentenced to 7 years in jail. After independence, he was elected to the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly. Three or four jurists have reached the post of High Court judge from Garhwal region in the past. In which Vijay Bahuguna ji, Tara Dutt Uniyal ji and JP Semwal ji are also included.

Justice Dhulia was born on 10 August 1960 in Lansdowne, Pauri Garhwal and had his early education in Dehradun and Allahabad. He is an alumnus of Sainik School, Lucknow and holds a law degree from Allahabad University.
Judge Dhulia Career
Dhulia was elevated from the bar to the bench and appointed Judge of the High Court of Uttarakhand on 1 November 2008. He has also been appointed the judge in-charge of education, Uttarakhand judicial and legal academy. He was elevated as Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court on 7 January 2021 and took the oath on 10 January 2021.
