Sonia was born on 25th December 1996 in Hisar, Haryana, India to Joginder Singh Rathee and Usha Rathee, a yoga instructor. She has a sibling, Ankur Rathee who is also an Indian actor. Her family shifted to San Diego, California, United States where she grew up.

Before following her passion for acting, she worked in a start-up finance company in New York. She worked there for one year before quitting the job.
Acting
In 2018, she was seen in a short film Night Encounters as Sonia which was released on YouTube.
In May 2021, she made her acting debut with the Web Series Broken But Beautiful 3 as Rumi Desai along with Sidharth Shukla. The web series was released on ALTBalaji. In December of the same year, she appeared in another Web Series Decoupled as Masha along with R. Madhavan. The web series was released on Netflix.
In July 2022, she was featured in the music video Chamkeela Chehra along with Badshah. In October 2022, she made her Bollywood debut with the film Tara vs Bilal as Tara along with Harshvardhan Rane.
