Sofia was born on August 24, 1998, in Los Angeles, California, USA, to Lionel Richie and his second wife, Diane Alexander. She has two elder sisters named Nicole Richie and Miles Richie.
Like her father, Richie grew up interested in music. She learned to sing at the age of five and play the piano at the age of seven. She appeared occasionally on her father’s shows and took singing lessons from vocal coach Tim Carter even when she was 14 years old. She also worked in the studio with her brother-in-law, Good Charlotte singer Joel Madden.
