She remained with the show for eleven seasons. In September 2008, she was confirmed as the host of the Seven Network’s makeover reality show 10 Years Younger in 10 Days. However, the series was not renewed for a second season despite its high ratings premiere.

Sonia Kruger Career

In November 2011, Kruger announced her departure from Dancing with the Stars and the Seven Network to pursue other opportunities. She signed a development deal with the Nine Network and was confirmed as the host of her own daytime talk show called Mornings, which premiered in February 2012. The show later rebranded as Today Extra and continued until 2016.

Kruger was then announced as the host of the Nine Network’s reboot of the competition reality series Big Brother Australia, replacing the previous hosts Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O. The ninth season of Big Brother premiered in August 2012 and achieved high ratings.

In 2015, Kruger joined the fourth series of The Voice Australia as a co-host with Darren McMullen. She also co-hosted Vision Australia’s Carols by Candlelight in 2017.

In 2018, Kruger became a presenter on the Nine Network’s travel series Helloworld but was later replaced for the second season. Kruger is currently co-hosting Channel 7’s Dancing with The Stars: All Stars, alongside her original co-host Daryl Somers.

Controversies

In 2008, while participating in an episode of Dancing with the Stars, Kruger made a remark about a group of “sweat shop of illegal immigrants” working on her wardrobe for the Melbourne Cup carnival. She then addressed the show’s musical director, Chong Lim, who was of Malaysian origin, asking about his family, stating, “How’s the family, Chong? All right?” Channel 7 later issued an apology for her statement.

Sonia Kruger Controvercy

On 18 July 2016, during an appearance on the morning show Today, Kruger called for a complete ban on Muslims entering Australia, expressing agreement with an opinion piece written by commentator Andrew Bolt. Kruger defended her comments by stating that she believed it was important in a democratic society to be able to discuss such issues without being labeled racist. However, it should be noted that the firebombing of a Perth radio station, initially linked to the presenters disagreeing with Kruger’s views in media reports, was later determined by the police to be coincidental and unrelated to the Islam discussion.

A complaint of racial vilification was filed against Kruger for her statement regarding Muslim immigration. The Nine Network sought to have the complaint dismissed without a hearing, but their request was denied. The complaint was filed by Sam Ekermawi, who was described by The Daily Telegraph as a “serial offence-taker.” It was revealed during the proceedings that Ekermawi had been involved in thirty-two hearings before courts and tribunals. The case proceeded for directions in June 2018.

Achievement

She gained fame as the host of Big Brother Australia and co-host of Dancing with the Stars in Australia. She also appeared in the film Strictly Ballroom and co-hosted the breakfast program Today Extra. Additionally, she reported on various events like the Olympics, Melbourne Cup, and Australian Open during her time at the Seven Network.
