Nithin Kamath is the founder and CEO of Zerodha. He started trading stocks when his friends introduced him to the market when he was just 17 years old. He began trading in penny stocks. He accumulated enough money while pursuing an engineering degree from the Bangalore Institute of Technology. Then he lost it all – Rs 5 lakh in 2001-02 when the market crashed. Desperate, he began working nights in a call center while trading stocks during the day to build his trading capital. This went on for a few years until he met an American HNI who gave him a check and asked Nithin to manage his money. He later started his own brokerage firm, Kamath, and Associates, and became a sub-broker for Reliance Money in 2006
