Jokic was born in the northern Serbian town of Sombor. He grew up in a cramped two-room apartment with him and his two older brothers and his grandmother. His parents, Branislav Jokic and his wife, whose name is not public.

Jokic and Natalija Macesic started going to high school in 2013. She’s very private, which is to be expected, especially when you’re dating an NBA superstar. However, she sent Jokic to London when the Nuggets played the Indiana Pacers in the 2017 NBA World Games. After the Los Angeles Lakers lost Jokic and the Nuggets in the NBA bubble, he spent the offseason with Macesic, whom he later married in October 2020. The couple tied the knot in a private wedding in Sombor, Serbia. Mrs. Jokic currently lives in Denver with her husband and studied psychology at Metropolitan State, a college quite close to the Ball Arena where the Nuggets play their home games. Jokic’s daughter, Ognjena, was born in September 2021.

Professional Career

Nikola Jokic professional career began at the youth level when he played for Vojvodina Srbijagas. He was a good player that attracted bigger teams, so he joined Mega Vizura in the summer of 2012. He rose from the junior team to the senior team of the Serbian League, where he averaged 18.4 points, 10.4 rebounds and 2.7 assists… per game before he left the team to pursue an NBA career. On June 26, 2014, he was selected by the Denver Nuggets with the 41st overall pick in the 2014 draft. His debut came a season later after the draft, where he was also signed after averaging 8.0 points and 6.2 rebounds in the team’s five summer league games.

In, October 29, 2016, Jokić recorded 23 points and a career-high 17 rebounds in a 115–113 overtime loss to the Portland Trail Blazers.  After starting the first eight games of the season, Jokić was moved to the bench on November 12.

On July 9, 2018, Jokić signed a five-year, $148 million maximum contract extension with the Nuggets. On October 20, 2018, in the Nuggets’ second game of the season, Jokić recorded 35 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists in a 119–91 win over the Phoenix Suns.

On July 1, 2022, Jokić agreed to a five-year $264 million supermax contract extension with the Nuggets, making it the richest deal in NBA history. On October 21, in the second game of the regular season Jokić posted his 77th career triple-double with 26 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists in a 128–123 win over the reigning champions Golden State Warriors.
