Naveen made his senior debut for the Kabul region in the 2018 Ahmad Shah Abdal 4-Day Tournament on 7 March 2018. In September 2018, Naveen Nangarhar’s team was named in the first round of the Afghanistan Premier League.

In November 2019, he was selected to play for Sylhet Thunder in the Bangladesh Premier League for the 2019–20 season. In July 2020, he was selected for the 2020 Caribbean Premier League squad of the Guyana Amazon Warriors. In October 2020, Kandy Tuskers selected him as the inaugural edition of the Lankan Premier League.

In February 2021, Leicestershire Foxes signed Naveen ahead of the 2021 T20 Blast tournament in England. In October 2021, Leicestershire parted ways with him for the summer of 2022 in England. In a T20 Blast match against Worcestershire Rapids in June 2022, he took 5/11 from his four overs with his first five wickets in Twenty20 cricket. The following month, Colombo Stars signed for the third edition of the Lankan Premier League.

International

Naveen made his One Day International (ODI) debut for Afghanistan against Bangladesh on 25 September 2016. Before his ODI debut, he was part of the Afghanistan squad for the 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

In December 2016, he captained Afghanistan at the 2016 U-19 Asian Cup. Naveen made his Twenty20 (T20) debut for Afghanistan against Namibia on 19 January 2017 in the Desert T20 Challenge 2017. In December 2017, Naveen was named as the captain of the Afghanistan team for the 2018 U-19 Cricket World Cup.

In August 2019, Naveen was named in Afghanistan’s Twenty20 International (T20I) squad for the 2019–20 Tri-Nation series against Bangladesh. He made his T20I debut in Afghanistan against Bangladesh on 21 September 2019.
