Meg Lanning is an Australian cricketer who currently captains the national women’s team. She plays for Delhi Capitals in the Women’s Premier League (WPL). She is a top-order batter, a right-hand batter and a right-arm medium bowler.

Meg Lanning Personal Life

Meg was born on 25^th March 1992 in Singapore to Wayne, a banker, and Sue. Her family shortly thereafter relocated to the Sydney suburb of Thornleigh. While growing up, her sporting idols were Ricky Ponting and Paul Kelly. When Meg was 14 years old, her family moved to the Melbourne suburb of Kew.

At the age of 10, she represented t New South Wales at the primary school level alongside several future Australian teammates, including Ellyse Perry. At the age of 14, she became the first girl to play First XI cricket for an Associated Public Schools team.

On 30^th December 2010, she made her international cricket debut in a T20I against New Zealand. On 5 January 2011, she made her ODI debut against England at the WACA Ground.

At the 2012 ICC Women’s World Twenty20, Lanning was the third-highest run-scorer with 138 across five innings.

On 11 August 2013, she made her Test debut during the 2013 Women’s Ashes. On 19^th January 2014, Lanning became Australia’s youngest-ever captain. In February 2014, she became the full-time captain of Australia’s T20 team.

In January 2022, she was named the captain of Australia’s squad for their series against England to contest the Women’s Ashes. In May 2022, she was named the captain of Australia’s team for the cricket tournament at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England.

Premier Leagues

On 10^th July 2010, she was unveiled as the Melbourne Stars’ first-ever player signing and captain. For the 2017-18 season, she joined as the captain of Perth Scorchers. In April 2022, she was bought by the Trent Rockets for the 2022 season of The Hundred in England.

In 2023, she was bought by the Delhi Capitals in the Women’s Premier League (WPL).
