Meagan Good was born on 8 August 1981 in Panorama City, Los Angeles, California, United States to Tyra Wardlow-Doyle, who worked as Good’s manager into her teens, and her father, Leondis “Leon” Good, an LAPD police officer. Good’s maternal grandmother is “Jewish and African. She has three siblings named La’Myia Good, Lexus Good, and Colbert Good.
Although not raised in the church, Good is a Christian, considers herself a spiritual person, and has said in several interviews that she refuses roles that she believes would “betray God”. She explained in an interview that Jesus is at the top of her list of heroes and the last book she read was the Bible.
Meagan Good Career
Good began her acting career at the age of about four. Early in her career, Good worked as an extra on television shows such as Doogie Howser, M.D., and Amen. At the age of 13, she was cast in her first film, the 1995 comedy Friday. She first received critical acclaim for her performance as troubled teenager Cisely Batiste in Kasi Lemmons’ 1997 film Eve’s Bayou; she received two award nominations, including her first NAACP Image Award nomination. After taking small film and television roles over the next few years, Good began to move into more mature roles in the early 2000s. Good believes she was able to transition into adult roles by playing roles many years younger than herself.
From 1998 to 2001, Nina appeared on the Nickelodeon television show Cousin Skeeter. Good small roles in 3 Strikes and House Party 4: Down to the Last Minute. In 2003, an important year for Good, she landed roles in the action-drama Biker Boyz and the romantic comedy Deliver Us from Eva, which helped her transition from child actor to adult actor. She also appeared as Vanessa in My Wife and Kids for one season before being replaced by another actress. In 2006, Good played what she considered her first real lead role as Coco in the urban action-drama Waist Deep. That same year, Good also voiced a character in the video game Scarface: The World Is Yours. In 2008, Good starred as unhappy student Shelley Baum in the horror film One Missed Call. Good returned to television from January to March 2013, starring in Deception. Good was contacted by her agents after she left the theater on set. She sat in her car “and cried for 30 minutes alone like a nerd.”
In 2014, Good reprised her role in Think Like a Man Too, a sequel to Think Like a Man. Good stated that she had a great time filming the sequel, being nervous at first “because there is so much energy that only Vegas can give”. The filming of Think Too Man was Good’s first time in Las Vegas shortly before her wedding. Good also appeared in many music videos of artists such as 50 Cent, (21 Questions), Imajin, Isyss (of which Good’s sister La’Myia Good is a member), Lil’ Johnny, Memphis Bleek, Tyrese, and Will Smith. She founded her own production company Freedom Bridge Entertainment with Marlon Olivera and fellow actors Tamara Bass and Ty Hodges. Good wore a royal dress designed by Michael Costello to the BET Awards on June 30, 2013. The dress featured a mid-length neckline and a front slit that reached mid-thigh. It has sometimes been compared to the Green Versace dress worn by Jennifer Lopez at the 42nd Grammy Awards in 2000. Fashion and style journalists voted “worst dressed” at the ceremony.
