Floor Jansen was born on 21 February 1981 in Goirle, Netherlands to Dutch parents. She has a sister named Irene Jansen.

Floor Jansen Career

Jansen was 16 when she joined Apocalypse, later known as After Forever, in 1997. Three years later, the band released their first album, Prison of Desire. She wrote the band’s lyrics and music with Mark Jansen (no relation) until their departure in 2002, after which she was the band’s sole composer. Before becoming a full-time musician, she worked as a singing teacher. Due to the exhaustion of After Forever bandmate Sander Gommans, the band took a one-year hiatus from January 2008 but finally decided to disband in February 2009.

Jansen posted on her website that she was writing music with Jørn Viggo Lofstad for a new music project, but they did not appear under the name Northward until ten years later.

On October 17, 2009, Jansen announced on MySpace that her new band would be called ReVamp. ReVamp’s first album After Forever was produced by keyboard player Joost van den Broek, bass player Jaap Melmanin (ex-Dreadlock Pussyn), and guitarist Waldemar Sorychtan (Grip Inc., Voodoocult, Eyes of Eden and Despair) together with songwriters and producers The final lineup of ReVamp consisted of keyboardist Ruben Wijga, bassist Jaap Melman, guitarists Jord Otto and Arjan Rijnen, and drummer Matthias Landes.

In August 2011, Van Canto announced on Facebook that ReVamp would no longer participate in the Out of the Dark tour due to Jansen himself suffering from exhaustion. In late 2011, Jansen joined former bandmate Mark Jansen on Mayan’s Latin American tour, performing in São Paulo. In 2012, Jansen joined Adrenaline Mob on stage in Bochum and Weert. ReVamp’s second album, Wild Card, was released in 2013. ReVamp announced its disbandment in September 2016, citing Floor Jansen’s inability to fully contribute to both ReVamp and Nightwish. After former Nightwish vocalist Anette Olzon left the band, Jansen served as Nightwish’s live vocalist for the remainder of the Imaginaerum World Tour in 2012. Her premiere with the group was in Seattle in October.

On October 9, 2013, Nightwish announced Jansen as Olzon’s permanent replacement in the group. In 2015, Nightwish released their first studio album, Endless Forms Most Beautiful, with Jansen as lead singer. Along with the album, the group announced a world tour. This resulted in the live album Vehicle of Spirit, the second live album to feature Floor. In 2019, Jansen took part in the Dutch reality show Beste Zangers. In the latter part, she teamed up with classical singer Henk Poort to perform “The Phantom of the Opera”, which was later released as a single. It reached number one on the Dutch Singles Chart and allowed Jansen to go on a sold-out solo tour in the Netherlands. She also won the Popprijs 2019, a prestigious Dutch award for an artist or group that has made a significant contribution to the development of Dutch pop music in the last year. Her other appearances for Beste Zangers included a solo version of “Shallow” and a separate acoustic duet version of the same song with Tim Akkerman. In 2022, she appeared in the German version of Beste Zangers: “Sing Eminem Song – Das Tauschkonzert”. In 2018, Nightwish announced their Decades World Tour, which celebrates their entire career as a band. Another studio album featuring Jansen as lead singer, Human Nature., was released on April 10, 2020. After several cancellations and rearrangements due to COVID-19 issues, Nightwish is currently touring this album.
