Family
He was born in a Sikh family in Wander Jatana village of Faridkot district in the Indian state of Punjab. Baljeet Kaur and Surinder pal Singh are Dhillon’s parents. He has a sister, Ihana Dhillon and a brother, Kiran Dhillon. He studied in Panj Graayin Kala Government School till 4th standard, he then moved to Uttar Pradesh near his father’s farm.

Education
He graduated from Zila Parishad High School, Nighasan, Lakhimpur Kher district. He then returned to Punjab where he completed his secondary education at Kot Kapura. He graduated from Muktsar Government College.
He worked in theater in Delhi and joined the Department of Indian Theater in Punjab University, Chandigarh in 1979 and completed his acting degree in 1980.
Career
Dhillon started a production company and released a well-received historical film titled Khalsa. His other productions include A Day at the Golden Temple (about 24 hours of sacred practice daily)”, Prakash Sri Guru Granth Sahib (2004 on the uniqueness of Guru Granth Sahib), Sikh Ate Dastaar, Inseparable-A Sikh and his Turban, (the unbroken bond of every Sikh with turban and long hair) Sarvnash (2007 against drug addiction) Gurbani By Kautak Volume 1 and Volume 2 (2009-2010 on the divine healing powers of Gurbani) Toshakhana Sri Darbar Sahib Valuable articles kept in Toshakhana) and Ḧarinam Ke Chamatkar (a documentary on the divine healing powers of Harinam).
Upcoming projects include Shahadat (a feature film dealing with voting politics and myriad other social issues of Punjab, India and NRIs), Ä Western Salutation to Sikhism (about the devotion, faith and beliefs of Westerners who embrace Sikhism) Saaka-Sarhind (docudrama). Veteran actor and noted filmmaker Mangal Dhillon passed away earlier today (June 11) in Ludhiana. He was suffering from cancer for a long time and was undergoing treatment in Ludhiana cancer hospital for the last one month.
He has been a part of shows like Buniyaad and Junoon. In 1986 show Buniyaad, he was seen in the role of Lubhaya Ram. He played the role of Sumer Rajvansh in 1993 show Junoon.
