Girlfriend
Olympic boxer Harry Garside has been romantically linked to Ashley Ruscoe, a professional boxer and health coach who is also a strong advocate for women’s empowerment. The couple appeared to have been dating for a while and even planned to start their own gym business,
in a low socio-economic area. Their goal was to teach young children about good people and healthy lifestyles.
Unfortunately, Harry and Ashley’s romance is coming to an end, and he was recently arrested at Sydney Airport following allegations of assault against his ex-girlfriend. Shocking details of the incident have emerged, and Harry is currently on bail pending an investigation.
Career
Garside decided he wanted to take up boxing when he was 9 years old. This came as a shock to his family, as he was not considered to be a boxer.
Garside joined the Lilydale Youth Club to pursue a boxing career. However, it didn’t get off to a great start as he lost more fights than he won. In fact, he lost 10 of the first 18, but that didn’t stop his fighting spirit. If anything, the losses spurred him on and he adopted an inferior mindset.
Harry Garside competed in the lightweight division at the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics. Successful in the group stage, Harry achieved an Olympic medal when he reached the semi-finals, which took place on August 6, 2021. His Olympic semi-final match against the boxer was Andy Cruz of Cuba.
Cruz went into the boxing match as the favorite due to his immense boxing experience. At the time, Harry Garside’s boxing record was 19-15 (wins, losses) compared to Andy Cruz’s 110-8 record.
Harry Garside later lost the fight by unanimous decision, but still managed to win an Olympic bronze medal. It was the first time an Australian boxer won an Olympic medal in 33 years.
Harry Garside has already won gold at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, ahead of his Olympic bronze. He did this while continuing his normal day job as a plumber. Harry later donated his bronze medal to the MCG Sports Museum.
Garside later turned pro, but insiders say he has a good chance of returning as an amateur to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Harry Garside has not fought since May 2022 when he suffered a hand injury which required surgery and ruled him out of his next bout. Harry Garside was scheduled to enter the ring on September 15, 2022, at the Nissan Arena in Brisbane, Queensland. He was scheduled to fight fellow Australian boxer Miles Zalewski in the first bout of the night, with former NRL player Paul Gallen facing both Justin Hodges and world number one Ben Hannant on the same night.
Unfortunately, however, Harry had to withdraw from the fight after sustaining an arm injury during training. Harry said of the decision to withdraw from the event: “I apologize to everyone who was excited to see me back in the ring that I won’t be there next week, especially my opponent.”
