iQOO has launched the iQOO Neo 7, which is a gaming smartphone available for less than Rs. 30,000 in India. This phone boasts the latest Mediatek Dimensity 8200 chipset, which is based on the TSMC 4nm fabrication process. The device has an Antutu score of 853422. Additionally, it boasts a stability score of 98.6 in the 3DMark Wildlife stress test.
This phone is ideal for gamers who like to play long gaming sessions as it has a vapor cooling chamber that prevents the device from overheating. It also supports motion controls, which allow players to tilt the phone to reload or peak. With this device, you can run Call of Duty and PUBG at 90 FPS and BGM at 90 FPS. It supports 5G networks and the three important bands in India, including jio and airtel 5G and 77, 78, and n28a bands.
The iQOO Neo 7 has a 6.78-inch AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and an instant touch sampling rate of 1200Hz, providing a seamless gaming experience. The bezels have been reduced to provide more screen estate for gaming. The device comes in two variants, 8GB RAM + 128GB storage and 12GB RAM + 256GB storage, and it uses UFS 3.1 and LPDDR5 RAM.
The device has a 5000mAh battery that can charge from 0 to 100% in just 25 minutes thanks to the 120W charger that comes with it. The battery life is excellent as the Dimensity 8200 is a power-efficient chipset, providing up to 6-7 hours of screen-on time. The device has a good contrast ratio of 80,000:1, ensuring deeper blacks and better contrast.
When it comes to the phone’s design, it’s not very different from previous iQOO phones, but it has a functional feature which is an infrared scanner. The only thing missing is a headphone jack. The device has Hi-Res support, providing good sound quality when listening to music. The only issue is the stereo speaker setup that doesn’t sound great, as the earpiece works as the right channel, resulting in a channel imbalance.
The phone runs FunTouch OS 13 based on Android 13, which provides two years of software updates and three years of security updates. The only downside is that FunTouch is not a very refined operating system, and there’s a lot of bloatware that comes pre-installed. You can uninstall the pre-installed apps, but it’s time-consuming.
One of the main compromises is the lack of an ultrawide angle camera in the setup. Instead, the phone features a single primary 64 MP Samsung GW3 sensor, which is the same sensor as the iQOO Neo 6, and a couple of other sensors, including macro and depth sensors.
While the macro and depth sensors may not be of interest to some, the primary camera performance is generally good, with typical IQ colors and good detail, especially when shooting portraits. However, the low light performance of the primary camera takes a hit, and it lacks stabilization in 4k 60fps video recording.
The 16 MP selfie camera performs well in daylight, with good portraits, but low light performance is not as good. It is interesting to note that the iQOO Neo 6 takes slightly better low-light pictures than the iQOO Neo 7.
iQOO has stated that they prioritize gaming performance over an ultrawide angle camera, which is why they left it out. However, the lack of an ultrawide angle camera means there is one less perspective for users to shoot with, and some may consider it a significant compromise.
The iQOO Neo 7 is a gaming phone meant for gamers, and it does perform well in gaming.
In conclusion, the iQOO Neo 7 is a solid choice for gamers, but its camera setup may not appeal to those looking for a well-rounded phone with the good camera performance. If you prioritize gaming and can live without an ultrawide angle camera, then the iQOO Neo 7 may be the right choice for you. However, if you need a phone with a more versatile camera setup, then you may want to look elsewhere.
