Ruby Rose was born on 20th March 1986 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Her father’s name is unavailable, and her mother’s name is Katia Langenheim, a singer. When Ruby was born, her mother was only 20 years old. Ruby is the great-granddaughter of Ellen Bang, a German movie actress, and Alex Campbell, the last surviving Australian soldier who fought in the Battle of Gallipoli.
At the age of 12, she came out as a lesbian due to which she faced both verbal and physical abuse by her male peers. One of her relatives sexually abused her.

At the age of 12, she used to get suicidal thoughts and attempted suicide. She struggled with her mental health issues all her life, having attempted suicide multiple times and having been diagnosed with complex post-traumatic stress disorder and clinical depression.
In 2019, she went through an emergency back surgery for a spine issue that led to two herniated discs caused by doing physical stunts on the set of Batwoman.
