Rajeshwari Gayakwad was born on 1st June 1991 in Bijapur, Karnataka, India to Late Shivanand Gayakwad (a primary school teacher in a government school, and Savitha Gayakwad.
In 2014, Rajeshwari lost her father due to a cardiac arrest, right after her debut international series, against Sri Lanka. She has four siblings- Kashinath Gayakwad, a professional tabla player, Vishwanath Gayakwad, a badminton and volleyball player, Rameshwari Gayakwad, a professional cricketer who plays for Karnataka, and Bhuvaneshwari Gayakwad, a professional hockey player who has played for Karnataka.
Rajeshwari’s family was a musically inclined family. Before Rajeshwari and her siblings ventured into their respective sports professionally, they used to learn music from their father. While Rajeshwari and her sisters would sing, her brother Vishwanath would play the tabla, and Shivanand would play the harmonium.
Rajeshwari was interested in playing multiple sports while growing up. She used to play Javelin and discus throw, Kho-Kho, and volleyball at school. Soon, she developed a passion for cricket as well. She spent her childhood playing gully cricket with her father and brothers.

On 16th November 2014, she made her Test debut for India against South Africa. In 2015, she was selected Indian Railways’ cricket team.
In 2017, she made her first appearance in the tournament against New Zealand, during the 2017 Women’s ODI World Cup.
In 2018, she represented IPL Supernovas in the inaugural edition Women’s T20 Challenge. She played for IPL Trailblazers for the 2020 and 2022 seasons of the Women’s T20 Challenge. She also played for India D’s squad for the 2021–22 Senior Women’s Challenger Trophy.
She was selected for India’s squad for the 2020 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup and the 2022 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup.
In January 2022, she was selected for India’s team for the 2022 Women’s Cricket World Cup in New Zealand. In July 2022, she was selected for India’s team for the cricket tournament at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England.
In 2023, she was bought by the UP Warriorz in the inaugural Women’s Premier League (WPL).
